Zapa plays Soccer (in slow motion) (Trilogy)

I took this video of Zapa's new friend riding him while he kicks around the big green ball. Prior to this he had never played with the ball under saddle. Tomorrow I will post on How To Teach Your Horse to Play Soccer to let you know how I did it. He is going slow here (and staying calm), but over time it would be easy to pick up the pace. Isn't that CUTE???

That is so adorable! I'm on my 3rd ball with my horse. Being a draft he gets a little carried away and stomps on them!

I've always given my babies balls to play with. They eventually destroy them. Here is a video of Vinnie with his first ball.
Vinnie and his red ball.

And some photos of his papa, when he got his first one...
Paisano meets the big, red ball.

Not exactly horse soccer, but gives them the idea. Vinnie is not yet two, so there is plenty of time for him to learn. :)

My horses love to kick the ball around too. However, I learned the importance of using a ball that is at least as tall as the horse's breastbone when my mare trapped a ball similar to the size of Zapa's between all four legs while trying to change the ball's direction--the only way out of that situation is straight up!--NOT a moment that I ever want to repeat. Therefore I ordered a 48 inch diameter "cageball" (vinyl bladder caged inside a durable nylon cover) from an Internet sporting goods supplier. It has held up well to a lot of fun and a few very competative matches for over a year now. You can see my horse Baybay and I having fun practicing ball control at
