Santana's Progress

This is a video of me riding Santana on Saturday. Don't forget to review the previous video here. I am very pleased with how he is doing, more importantly, his owner is VERY pleased. You'll notice at the end of the video that I entirely dropped my reins. I can now get on him and he will walk like that and will even come down from a corto like that. When he first came to live with me all he did was brace, so I am excited about his ability to relax.

Santana is a fino horse, but he is working here in corto (on the board). I find his gait very jarring, it still lacks even cadence which I know will get better with work. I don't know if it is a good idea to bring him back into fino, but Carlos Tobon will be giving a clinic here in June, so I will ask his advice. In the meantime I will continue my 30 days and see how much farther we progress.

Hi Jerri,

Santana and you are just AMAZING!

VERY VERY FLUID WALK, TRANSITIONS IN FINO AND CORTO. SANTANA IS SO COLLECTED AND CALM, AND YOU CAN SEE HOW SUPPLE HIS WHOLE BODY IS ,HOW NICELY HE DROPS HIS HEAD, HOW RELAXED HE IS, STILL KEEPING HIS MOVEMENTS CORRECT. IT IS A TRUE MIRACLE AND YOUR GIFT OF COMMITTMENT AND LOVE FOR TRAINING SANTANA, WHO HAD REALLY BEEN THOUGH SO MUCH IN HIS YOUNG PERFORMANCE LIFE. JERRI YOU LOOK SO GREAT ON HIM, AND HE SO TRUSTS YOU. I CRIED WHEN I SAW THIS RECENT VIDEO. I FEEL SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE MET YOU AND THAT SANTANA'S EVOLUTION TO ALL OF HIS POTENTIAL IS COMMING TRUE, IN YOUR HANDS.
THANKYOU SO MUCH. I AM EXCITED TO SEE HIM IN PERSON. MAY ALL THIS WONDERFUL PROGRESS CONTINUE.

Bette had a hard time leaving a comment, so she asked me to post this for her. A little hokey I know, but I cannot express what these words mean to me.

Jerri,
I second everything that Marianne has said and want to add. The strides you have made with him are truly PHENOMENAL!!!!! You have taken Santana to the next level. He is more calm and focused; so willing to give you his heart. His potential is being realized under your care, skill and attention to detail. But most of all, its your dedication to this breed and the recognition that Santana was/is a horse that has unrecognized talent. He had problems--was pushed much to fast too soon before he arrived in Portland. You smoothed him out with your love of training and precision. Its been magical to see his transformation. You are the best thing that has happened to him.

Those are two excellent testimonials to your skill as a Paso Fino trainer!

You may turn this into a full time job if you aren't careful! ;) :) ;)
